Bill: Ending National Service

Details

Submitted by[?]: Choice

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 3833

Description[?]:

Currently, all adults upon completion of schooling must serve either a term in the military or a lesser paid term of civilian national service, at their option. We think this is ENTIRELY wrong and immoral, people should be allowed to choose what they do with their lives, many people simply aren't made for the military or the civilian national service. We believe that national service intrudes into peoples lives and can even change them forever. We say it's time to stop this practise, and end national service once and for all!

MessageMr. Speaker,

While the LIP understands the reasoning behind this bill, the party must oppose it. This law helps to maintain the military spirit of the country, and while it does mandate either military or civilian national service for a term, it doesn't limit what citizens can do after this mandatory term. To say that this policy constricts the choice of people to decide their own career is wrong. The LIP also believe that national service is supposed to change a person in a positive direction in service to their country, fostering loyalty to the Crown and his government.

I yield.

MessageWhat's so good about fostering loyalty to the crown and the government? People have different views, they should be entitled to think how they want, and everyone is different, it won't affect everyone positively, to say that is narrow-minded, backward and quite frankly stupid.

And the military spirit, what the heck is that supposed to mean?

MessageMr. Speaker,

This government is forcing its will on the people for to long. The people should be allowed the freedom of choice! A society without democracy is an unfair one! Please reconsider your stance Luthori Imperial Party. This bill gives the power back to the people! The very people we serve.

I yield.

MessageMr. Speaker,

While people are able to create their own opinions, without loyalty to the Crown, owr oun citizens may betray the Crown and fight with our enemies. Likewise by maintaining the military spirit of the Empire, the territorial integrity of the Empire can be better maintained in the unfortunate event of open war. Also, to say that this country is one without democracy is an incorrect assumption. Even though there is an Emperor who rules the country, the people have a direct role in the election of the Holy Imperial Diet. Their choices directly influence the make up of the government. This is not oppression. This comes with the assumption that the people relinquish their sovereignty to the government so that the government can effectively run the country.

I yield.

MessageYour first sentence just contradicted itself, you said people are able to create their own opinions but then you said "without loyalty to the crown, our citizens may betray the crown and fight with our enemies". Basically insinuating that it's illegal to do that thus the people are not allowed to form their own opinions or act upon them.
