Bill: Religious Schools
Details
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 3839
Description[?]:
Currently, only recognised religions may set up religious schools, with no regulations. We are strongly opposed to this as A - it discriminates different religions, why should our government say which religions are and are not recognised and B - there should be regulations, else it could prove dangerous to our children. We propose that we change this legislation to any religion may set up a school, but they are strictly regulated. Ideally we would prefer to outlaw all religious schools but we realise this would not garner any support and thus would be pointless proposing so, so we're making a compromise here. We believe that if some religions are allowed to set up schools, they all should, but in order to protect our children from extremism from either unknown or well known religions, strict regulation will be put in place, plus with strict regulation it ensures children are still getting the right education mandated by the government. |

Message | Mr. Speaker, If I recall correctly it was only a few months ago that 77 seats in the imperial diet threw their support behind this bill, I ask the gentlemen proposing this now, is the ideological incoherency really worth it? |

Message | Absolutely, why would it not be worth it? The only reason your bill changing the legislation to have no regulations behind religious schools was simply because you promised you would join us in coalition in government if we supported your bill, and that was mainly for the other proposal in the bill, not the one involving religious schools. Overall Luthori believes we should have legislation behind religious schools, to make sure children get the education the government mandates for all schools. All schools should have high regulations, religious schools should be no different. |

Message | Mr. Speaker, While the LIP support the idea of the government regulating religious schools, we oppose the idea that any religion can set up a school. Doing this would allow invalid cults to compete with legitimate religions. The LIP, as adamant defenders of the Luthori Church, oppose this bill. I yield. |

Message | Who are we to decide what "invalid cults" and "legitimate religions" are? Besides with strict regulation, it would mean that if "invalid cults" were to open schools, the strict regulation would mean that the fact they are "invalid cults" are working within reason. |

Message | Mr. Speaker, I am afraid that these cuts go against the nature of Luthorian society. These radical reforms should be tempered with time not with fiery rhetoric and socratic questioning. Who decides what "invalid cults" and "legitimate religions" are? We do, we as the representatives of the people of the Empire do. We have the power to decide these things, and given the religious nature of our society, it is perfectly valid for us to decide what is valid or not and we will do so by voting against this bill. I yield |

Message | Truth is though our government doesn't represent everyone, and even if it does, there's still a fair chunk of that government who represents the people who does not believe we should simply which religions are "valid" and which religions are "irrelevant cults". Thus far Choice, Arch and the Luthorian Progress Party have voted in favour of this bill, that's 25 seats, a fair chunk of the Luthori people don't you think? If people believe a certain religion is not valid and they set up a school, they do have the option not to attend that school or send their children to that school and send them elsewhere. Meanwhile others will believe that school set up by a religion your party defines as "irrelevant" IS in fact relevant and will choose to send their children there. We should leave the options open for our people instead of deciding in this way and using prejudice. |

Message | Mr. Speaker, This rhetoric is illogical, this bill cannot be passed as is. I yield |

Message | Illogical, is that the best your party can come up with? It looks like our point is valid, and you can't come up with anything else. |
