Bill: Opposition Income Tax Proposal of November 3844
Details
Submitted by[?]: National Republican Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill proposes to change income taxes. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.
Voting deadline: July 3845
Description[?]:
The National Republican Party proposal is more moderate. It requires nearly all citizens to pay taxes (which is just), but keeps rates low for the lowest earners. The wealthy's taxes increase significantly, but not to the point where they can no longer contribute to economic growth through investment and consumption. This plan even raises more money than the government's, allowing us to cut taxes in other areas. It is a fair, balanced plan where more than enough revenue is raised, the wealthy pay a share reflective of their success and their small proportion of the population, and economic growth is promoted. |

Message | Although this proposal represents a marked improvement on the policy that the NRP pursued while in government, we believe that it unfairly takes away from the tax burden of those earning more than 10,000TPD and forces those earning between 500 and 1,500TPD to foot the bill for the wealthy. This, coupled with the reduction in the luxury goods sales tax proposed by the NRP, demonstrates the opposition party's commitment to the top earners in our society at the expense of the working people. |

Message | You may have missed our explanation of "luxury" in the consumption bill description, but we'll restate. As we understand it from reading the descriptions from within the lawbooks, luxury goods are those not necessary for pure sustenance. The vast majority of the production economies of the world are for luxury goods. On to taxes. We don't find it unfair that the wealthy, who represent a much smaller percentage of the population than the working class, pay for the same amount as the working class. Simply compare the top rates and the second to bottom rates (the bottom rate in the Reform party proposal). The top earners contribute near as much as most of the workforce, despite there being many less of them. Any higher tax rate on the wealthy would simply be punishing success and would constitute an immoral governmentally forced redistribution of the wealth. Let's not forget, the wealthy do the vast majority of investment in Terra - and investment is essential to economic growth and to creating jobs for the rest of the nation. And what sort of message do we send to the millions attempting to better themselves and rise through the income ranks if we take away half of the money of the successful? We need a tax system that doesn't impose too heavy a burden on any one bracket, that allows for both private sector growth through consumption and investment and the proper funding of public sector programs. This plan gets us there without being oppressive to the poor or punitive to the successful. |
