Bill: Labor Pool Augmentation Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: National Republican Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: August 3845
Description[?]:
As Telamon's economy grows, it will need more and more hard-working and entrepreneurial immigrants. Currently, the system based on individual appraisal is cumbersome and bureaucratic. We propose to have open borders. Security concerns fall under "border security" legislation and should be altered to reflect the coming influx of migrants, but we are convinced that opening this nation up to more workers and more citizens will safe and beneficial. Even more than the economic reasoning, let us consider what sort of nation Telamon ought to be. We must be a nation of immigrants, an accepting land of free enterprise, personal responsibility, and possibilities. We should be eager to give shelter to the abused, freedom to the oppressed, and sustenance to the hungry. With this law, we will ensure that these qualities live on forever, just as Telamon will as a sanctuary of the righteous. |

Message | We are concerned about Article 2. While we welcome the extension the policy to include all refugees, we are uncomfortable with accepting a position where no financial aid is given to them. Given that this includes people who come to Telamon without a penny to their name, how does the NRP expect them to survive without financial aid? |

Message | We expect them to survive as millions of immigrants have before them, millions who have come to a land of opportunity, where the only financial aid they needed was their willingness to work hard. While we believe strongly in the idea of Telamon as a sanctuary, we also don't believe that our nation must be or ought to be a global charity. If they wish to come to our nation, we will welcome them with open arms if they are willing to work hard. But we would be betraying our constituents if we were to prioritize prospective new citizens over the ones already here. That doesn't mean we should discriminate, but merely that our policy should be balanced. We will accept everyone, but we won't be indebted to them. |

Message | A person who flees persecution or death and reaches Telemonian shores with nothing to their name cannot survive on their 'willingness to work hard'. Willingness to work hard doesn't feed a starving child. It doesn't provide for a roof over a refugees head. Nobody is suggesting that we provide financial aid indefinitely to refugees, but some financial aid is necessary so that they can survive and get a start. Very few Terran nations do not offer financial aid of some sort to the refugees that they accept. |

Message | We would argue that willingness to work hard can do all of those things, but we take your point on Terran standards. We ought to be able to offer our refugees a relatively good deal. Let's pass this act first as it contains the open borders clause and then pass an act to correct article 2. You can in fact offer that bill right now. |

Random fact: It is the collective responsibility of the players in a nation to ensure all currently binding RP laws are clearly outlined in an OOC reference bill in the "Bills under debate" section of the nation page. Confusion should not be created by displaying only some of the current RP laws or displaying RP laws which are no longer current. |
