Message | Why shouldn't children have to sing the national anthem in schools, especially now that the majority of schools are run by the government and funded by the people? We should be reinforcing pride and patriotism in our students as well as just knowledge, so that when they become adults they will use their skill and talents to help the country and all of their fellow citizens. This isn't a free speech issue - it isn't considered a violation of free speech when teachers give students assignments. This is about the values we want to instill in our children and foremost among them should be a love and appreciation for Telamon. |

Message | The appreciation of Telamon doesn't have to be enforced in the form of mandatory singing every day |

Message | What harm does singing in morning do the students? It's no different from taking the pledge of allegiance. |

Message | Also, we find the mention of "occasions when the country should be proud" quite disturbing? Does the president not think that we should always be proud of Telamon? Or, as it seems from his writing, think that being justifiable proud of the nation is anomaly, a special occasion, a break for the norm? The NRP thinks that not being proud of the country is anomaly, the result of rare and terrible mistakes. The government seems to think the opposite is true. |
Date | 10:48:38, May 14, 2015 CET | From | Telamonian Reform Party | To | Debating the National Anthem In Schools |
Message | The TRP fully supports this legislation. For what it's worth, we would have liked to have seen the Social Democrats go further and prevent children from ever being forced to sing the national anthem. While the TRP are proud of Telamon and proud of the nation that this coalition government is building, we recognise that we cannot force others to be proud or to love this country. The NRP's determination to require compliance from citizens and reject freedom of speech is a worrying demonstration of the authoritarian regime they seek to impose on this nation. |
