Bill: The National Flag Amendment Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Liberal Progressive Alliance

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: February 3848

Description[?]:

Mr. Speaker,

We believe that the current flag (showing the hammer and sickle) does not represent our nation, as we are not a communist state. We are proposing an alternative that omits this without dramatically changing other aspects of the flag, such as the colour.

MessageMr. Speaker,

We encourage healthy debate on this bill, as it is a major amendment to the Constitution. If this flag is not preferred by a majority, then we would like to initiate an open discussion as to what would be preferred. This should be a decision that all parties have a say in. The new flag proposed in this bill is our personal preference, but we appreciate that it may not be the preference of others.

MessageMr. Speaker,

we cannot possibly accept this.
This proposal even lacks the meaning of the flag or an explanation of its symbology, which we would appreciate knowing before such a proposal is being sent to vote.
