MessageMr. Speaker,

This is ridiculous. They want to cut Trade & Industry by 50%.

We currently have 0 exports. That money is better spent on Justice and Foreign Affairs.

And 5 billion is still a considerable amount!

MessageOOC:

It's pointless to point out exports. The game's economy features aren't working. No country has exports mentioned on their budget page (so it's pointless for any character to mention, since no character sees any other country exporting). Trading is usually RP'd; surely countries import and export. We can treat the "zero" figure as exports and imports being equal.

And even if we ignore trading, we can still focus on the "industry" part.

MessageM. Speaker,

I would be willing to go from 5 billion in Trade & Industry to 6. So long as spending is under 100 billion.

MessageMr. Speaker,

I don't care about what Carl Lexington is willing to do. He is not the Finance Minister. He is pretending as if he has control of the budget and the tax scheme. This is only a proposal, and it is unlikely that this can be passed without a change in the composition of the Presidium.

MessageM. Speaker,

As a democratically elected member of this Presidium, I have a perfect right to present these proposals. We desperately need to cut government spending to aid our wafer-thin surplus, and if the minister refuses to accept that then I am proud to be presenting this bill.

This is a debate. The minister said he was concerned about a part of the proposal, so I was willing to compromise. There was no need for Trevor Fertig to be rude.

MessageMr. Speaker,

We do not "desperately need" to cut our government spending. We have had a surplus that has built up over the years, and we still have the strongest national currency in the world. Many countries have not run surplus budgets.

Also, a high surplus is not a good thing. A high surplus will cause recession and reduce our GDP. When the government takes money from the people through taxes, it must spend as much as it can to contribute back to the economy. All government spending directly contributes to GDP. We could easily raise our GDP by running a deficit budget, as we would be introducing extra money to our economy. The GNRG has ensured a stable and healthy surplus that is small enough to keep us out of this problem, and we still have high government spending.
