Bill: Freedom To Hire Act.
Details
Submitted by[?]: Liberal-Progressive Union
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 2170
Description[?]:
This bill eliminates all discrimination in hiring as it prevents the government from regulating hiring practices. Currently the government decides who companies can hire with the goal of preventing discrimination. Until the government is no longer involved in hiring practices, this law will always discriminate by taking the hiring process out of the private industry. |

Message | Removing the government completely from hiring policies is likely to lead to discrimination as there would be no way to stop discriminatory policies (whether in the "positive" or negative forms). "this law will always discriminate by taking the hiring process out of the private industry." - Discriminate against whom? All companies are equally affected by the law. |

Message | We agree with the UB on this matter. If the government plays no role in the hiring process, workplace discrimination will take place. |

Message | On a technical note, currently companies can hire whoever they want, they just aren't forced into hiring X number of people of a type of race/religion etc. The law stops all forms of positive discrimination, if companies want to discriminate in their hiring policies because they don't like whatever religion et al, they can. |

Message | I tend to view it as companies will hire the most qualified person regardless of race/etc.. Currently there is really no way of deciding who was hired or not hired due to other factors besides their qualifications. Discrimination will exist regardless of laws designed to prevent it. Eliminating the governments role in hiring practices doesn't mean rampant discrimination will suddenly overcome companies who must hire the best qualified person in order for that person to be of a benefit to the company. |

Message | "I tend to view it as companies will hire the most qualified person regardless of race/etc.. " - Unfortunately the reality is that this is not always the case. "Currently there is really no way of deciding who was hired or not hired due to other factors besides their qualifications." - We can see if the rejected candidate was better for the job than the rejected one and rule on that. "Eliminating the governments role in hiring practices doesn't mean rampant discrimination will suddenly overcome companies who must hire the best qualified person in order for that person to be of a benefit to the company." - It will make discrimination easier and much more likely to become widespread. |

Random fact: Players who consent to a particular role-play by acknowledging it in their own role-play cannot then disown it or withdraw their consent from it. For example, if player A role-plays the assassination of player B's character, and player B then acknowledges the assassination in a news post, but then backtracks and insists the assassination did not happen, then he will be required under the rules to accept the validity of the assassination role-play. |
