Message | This is a populist and dangerous proposal that toys with the taxation system of Rutania. We are absolutely opposed to this proposal. Additionally, we are a party that is against regulatory subsidies (for example in telephone and child credit) precisely because the tax system is progressive. If the progressive sales tax is destroyed, so are our arguments for free market policies. This would change Rutania from a serious nation into the laughing stock of the world by introducing a tax system that should only be expected from sixteen year old libertarian boys who just red some hate-filled Coulter book, not from serious political movements. In conclusion I would just like to add that this bill DESTROYS the tax free foot, meaning that the vast majority of Rutanians (notably those with no or just a very low income) would pay much, much more. And a basic subsistence wage coupled with taxing even the first RUT creates a distinct disincentive to work. I am afraid to say that if this hideous fundamentalist and extreme ideology-ridden bill is voted in by the Freedom Coalition, then we will seriously have to reconsider our cooperation with them. Our understanding with this coalition has always been based on the understanding that the tax compromise on Rutania that was proposed many years ago by the Libertarian Alcoholics (a much lower but still progressive tax rate with a large tax free foot) is maintained. I can only hope that this is merely a conservative attempt to divide us. |

Message | OOC: Okay, one, whats with the rant against the Coalition? I thought we were supposed to be partners - and as far as I know, the CP has never been part of the Coalition. Secondly, what does this actually mean? I'm afraid economics isn't my strong point. |

Message | OOC: I'll give you some economic reasoning when I get home tonight explaining why this is a Very Bad Thing. Ant it is not a rant against the coalition, but more a warning that voting in for this Conservative Party bill will create... trouble. And in the past some FC parties have been agitating for a flat tax but this was all solved very decently by LibAlc back then. |

Message | After an extensive session with the economic commitee and Financial Ministry, the GRP has resolved the matter. The GRP will never support this blatant attack upon the working and middle classes to the expense of the Upper Classes. The richer you get, the more you should pay in taxes to the state. The GRP stands firm on this. As to the 0& Corporate Tax, the GRP will never aquiesce to this blatant money-mongering. The Corporations make Billions, nay even Trillions of Ruts; they can easily pay 19& of their proceeds to the state, and buy a few less limosuines and 'golden parachutes'. |

Message | Semi IC: Who is this coulter you speak of? The Conservative Party wishes to point out to the GRP that the rich still pay far more tax then the lower classes would, nor would this be an "attack" on the lower classes, as in the past history has shown that economic growth is at its highest when the richest are attacked by the rabble in taxes the least, as the income trickles back down in the form of lower interest rates and more money to be invested into our economy. |

Message | OOC: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ann_Coulter <--- Pure evil, forgive me the reference IC: The corporate tax proposal fails to recognise that the Rutanian government provides ample services to corporations which they can pay something back for. There are direct services such as the Rutanian chamber of commerce and the courts which are open to businesses, but also the fact that Rutania has law and order and the strict enforcement of private property are thanks to the government of Rutania. These things cost money, and abolishing the corporate tax will basically shift the burden for ensuring corporate welfare to the citizens! This is profoundly antisocial and not in keeping with the principle that those who profit from something can pay for it as well. Giving corporations a 'free ride' should be out of the question. Rutania is not a blank sheet, and this income tax proposal will redistribute income from the rich to the poor in a way that is unimaginably unfair. The free foot for taxes is eliminated in favour of tax cuts for the wealthiest Rutanians. A student at a Rutanian university who works part-time to pay for his books and makes 3000 RUT, for example, pays 130 RUT in taxes under the current system. The proposed flat-tax means he pays 300 RUT! All the poorer citizens in Rutania will lose out massively in this proposal, seeing their taxes double or triple so those who make tens of thousands of RUT get a marginal cut over their top tariff. It is time we face reality: taxes in Rutania are very low. The top tariff, compared to other countries, is very low as well both in absolute terms and as a percentage. It is the most useful means to keep a "tax free foot" available to us. We should not throw away our values for populist economic rhetoric. Additionally, this proposal will create a big budget deficit, which is something that all parties here should oppose virulently! Fiscal conservatism is nowhere to be seen in the Conservative Party, it seems. |

Message | A flat tax of 15% is way to high, and will damage low-income Rutanians lives too much. We'd support a flat tax only if it was super-low. We would have support the corporation tax abolition on its own. |
