Bill: Rural Economy Support Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Kazuliansk Bondepartiet

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 3901

Description[?]:

The current universal minimum wage is disastrous for the rural economy. It is simply too high and destroys agricultural jobs all over the country. The cost of living is generally lower in the rural areas so there's no need to have such a ridiculous high minimum wage.

MessageMr Speaker,

We appreciate the concerns of the hon. gentleman. The approach of the last Labour government was to introduce a high level of subsidisation for rural industries to ensure the continued viability of those industries. We deeply regret the fact that those subsidies are being slashed by the current government, but we believe that cutting the standard of living for rural workers by allowing unacceptably low wages is not the right way to address the failings of this government.

MessageMr Speaker,

The Labour approach was a great one but as the Hon Member herself acknowledges, bourgeois sadism mean that the rural economy is to take a hard knock with the anti-industry policies of the current government. We, unlike them bourgeois conmen don't believe that free-market fairies in the woods will automatically replace the lost jobs. We have to ask ourselves if it is better to endure an increase in rural employment or even maintain the current above average levels or to instead take wage cuts across the board, with a hope that once an end to the bourgeois sadism, wages will rise again. We think the latter is a better if still a cruel option.
