Bill: Public Safety Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Delete This Party!!!
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 2055
Description[?]:
Endralon's current legislation for gathering in public is a joke. According to the laws in our country, if a bunch of drunken yobs are hanging around in town centres they can't be dispersed. Obviously, political protests would be unaffected as would people causing no harm to others. But the police must have the ability to break up gangs that threaten the public. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The citizens' right to assemble in public.
Old value:: There are no restrictions on the right of citizens to assemble in groups.
Current: The police may only disperse a crowd if a state of emergency has been declared.
Proposed: The police may disperse a group if they believe it poses a potential risk to public safety.

Message | whilst I sympathise with your point its all very easy to say political protests will be unaffected its another thing to assume with the implementation of this bill in the hands of the police and the state that will truly be the case. |

Message | Gangs that threaten the public can be broken up under the current legislation if they actually take any violent or otherwise illegal action. What the police CAN'T do is break up groups that just LOOK "threatening". |

Message | The problem with that approach is the gangs can only be broken up after someone has been injured or killed. If there are certain people who are known for yobbish behaviour and there have been several complaints from scared citizens, I believe it is the polices duty to break them up. There will be a series of checks to ensure peaceful political protests can go ahead. |

Message | You do have a point. The question can be seen as one of liberty vs. security. We choose liberty. Besides, we support the right to bear arms. Any gang that gets violent against innocent citizens can expect to be shot at even before the police arrives. |

Message | Oh right, so we shall turn the streets of Endralon to a wild west movie? This is what happens without law and order - the streets will become a battleground! We can't have armed vigilante's going around shooting at people when we could simply give police the powers to move these people on. |

Ask the experimenters why it is morally okay to experiment on animals, and the answer is: "Because the animals are not like us." Animal experimentation rests on a logical contradiction." - Charles R.
