Bill: Health Services Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: United Liberal Alliance

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: March 2172

Description[?]:

Same as for education, there is no majority for privatisation, but we should certainly allow the private sector to provide health services to give people choice. Also, we do fail to see why the state should pay for medication of those who are fully able to make a contribution. Whilst we favour simply subsidising this for people on low incomes, we realise that there is much disagreement on this and therefore we are proposing that the state will continue to provide free medication for those on low incomes.

MessageThe bill does not take into account the huge effect medical expenses can have on an individuals financial situation, even if they are nowhere near low income.

Removing the current subsidy from all citizens' pharmaceutical drugs would increase the need for private insurance, which would increase the costs of health care significantly. We can see that in all countries with compulsory public health insurance provide good health care for much lower costs than countries relying purely on private health insurance for majority of the population (eg. Frances per capita expenditure is 50% lower than in the US and basically all health indicators are significantly better.)

MessageI would much rather see, fully privatized health care, and only paying for the poor instead.
