| Current law on food labelling: Any chemicals used in agrigulture or processing must be listed. There is no requirement to disclose GM ingredients. Only the major ingredients and those with specific labelling requirements must be listed. Proposed change on food labelling: Any chemicals used in agrigulture or processing, and any Gentically Modified ingredients must be listed. All ingredients and corresponding nutritional information must be listed. Reason for change on food labelling: People have a right to know what is in their food. The current laws on food labelling are definitely better than nothing, they still need improvement. Genetically modified food might not be proven to cause health issues, it is still a deviation from natural organic farming, which the people deserve to be aware of. Furthermore, listing only the major ingredients found in foods is inefficient to protect against those who have sensitive allergies and or follow a strict diet plan. These new laws may be tedious to implement, but overall will save lives and improve the accountability of our food distributors.
