Message | Good idea. We will probably support this, pending some debate. |

Message | The Council has no objection. |
Date | 10:46:35, May 21, 2005 CET | From | National People's Gang | To | Debating the Distinct society clause |
Message | This is an utterly scurrilous attempt to fudge genuine issues of local autonomy through semantic spin doctoring. Frankly, we're surprised to find that even the CCF would stoop to such ludicrous con tactics. The regions are demonstrably not "nations" in any sense. We may as well call them "planets" or "jellies" or "blobby purple map extensions". A more honest term, given the CCF's recent stance on Rapulese independence would be "colonies". |
Date | 18:12:07, May 21, 2005 CET | From | Cooperative Commonwealth Federation | To | Debating the Distinct society clause |
Message | The CCF has certainly recognized the right to self-determination in Rapula. Indeed, we were the first to call for a referendum to ascertain the actual wishes of the Rapulese people. The CCF is a federalist party. While recognizing the right to self-determination, we still work for the unity of our country. This bill, along with our continued support for decentralization, is a sincere attempt to meet the national aspirations of our five regions through means short of independence. Lodamun is a state consisting of distinct nations, and this fact should be recognized. Why would the Albert Party be opposed? Even if they doubt our sincerity, does this bill do any harm? Does the Albert Party have any constructive suggestions to make to improve the bill, or is it set on a course of obstructionism? |

Message | no objections |
Date | 18:40:13, May 21, 2005 CET | From | National People's Gang | To | Debating the Distinct society clause |
Message | We don't consider pointing out the hollowness of spin doctoring as being obstructionism. Give the people of your "colonies" something meaningful, don't insult them with wordplay. |
Date | 22:51:26, May 21, 2005 CET | From | MLTP (The Resistance) | To | Debating the Distinct society clause |
Message | The MLTP supports the Idea behind this bill, but to call our region "Nations" is seems like the first step towards breakup. Perhaps call them "republics"? |
Date | 01:21:24, May 22, 2005 CET | From | Cooperative Commonwealth Federation | To | Debating the Distinct society clause |
Message | Willing to change to republics, if desired. Five (or four) republics making up the Independent Republic of Lodamun is a bit odd though. If we call the regions republics, we can ask to change the country name to Independent RepublicS of Lodamun, maybe. (Wouter is willing to make this sort of change if a substantial majority of parties want it.) |
Date | 02:08:17, May 22, 2005 CET | From | CNT/AFL | To | Debating the Distinct society clause |
Message | If we change to republics, the nation name shouldn't be Independent Republics of Lodamun, that just sounds funny. Federation of Lodamun, Union of Lodamunian Republics or United Lodamunian Republics sound ok. |
Date | 17:21:16, May 22, 2005 CET | From | Cooperative Commonwealth Federation | To | Debating the Distinct society clause |
Message | I don't hear a consensus calling for "republics," and it raises the need to rename the entire country, so moving to a vote on nations. To our colleagues in the MLT Party: the wording of the bill explicitly states that the unity of Lodamun is upheld, in an attempt to address your concern. We are using "nation" in the sense of a distinct people, not the sense of a nation-state. There are many countries consisting of several nations. We hope you will be able to support the change. |
Date | 21:22:15, May 22, 2005 CET | From | MLTP (The Resistance) | To | Debating the Distinct society clause |
Message | The MLTP will confer to decide whether or not we will support this bill, and will anounce our decision once it has been reached. Once again, we support the intent of this bill, but worry that, despite the "Nothing in this bill shall be interpreted to subtract from the national unity of the Independent Republic of Lodamun" clause, calling our regions nations will inadvertently help to fuel separatist movements such as that in Rapula. |
Date | 00:27:53, May 23, 2005 CET | From | National People's Gang | To | Debating the Distinct society clause |
Message | The more our colleagues from the CCF try to explain their position on this, the more bizarre it becomes. The regions are geographic entities. The "nations" in the sense of distinct people, are free to flow throughout Lodamun presumably? Or is this the first measure in a cunning and bafflingly complex segregation plan? Have "nations" if you will, of "distinct people", but distinct people either fit within distinct geography or they don't. You can't have it both ways. |
Date | 19:34:56, May 23, 2005 CET | From | CNT/AFL | To | Debating the Distinct society clause |
Message | The CNT/AFL shall meet to decide which way to vote on this issue. |
Date | 00:30:28, May 24, 2005 CET | From | MLTP (The Resistance) | To | Debating the Distinct society clause |
Message | The MLTP has come to the decision that, regrettably, we cannot support this bill, for the reasons stated above. |
Date | 01:26:53, May 24, 2005 CET | From | CNT/AFL | To | Debating the Distinct society clause |
Message | The CNT/AFL has concluded, after much lengthy debate that nearly ended in a fist fight, to withold support for this bill. We feel that this bill is well meaning, but instead of taking concrete steps, merely aims to flatter the peoples of Kregon, Andalay, Rapula, Norstavan and Golavia with pretty words. |
Date | 07:57:04, May 24, 2005 CET | From | Lodamun Centre-Left Coalition | To | Debating the Distinct society clause |
Message | The MLP will take a neutral stance for now. |

Random fact: In Culturally Protected nations, special care must be taken to ensure realism is maintained when role-playing a government controlled by an ethnic and/or religious minority. If it is to be supposed that this government is supported by a majority of the population, then this should be plausibly and sufficiently role-played. The burden of proof is on the player or players role-playing such a regime to demonstrate that it is being done realistically |
