Bill: Police Search Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Libertarian Citizens
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 3916
Description[?]:
Libertarian Citizens believe in individual freedom and too strong a police force is detrimental for a mature, educated, free society, where crime is reduced to a minimum by individually enforced good, respectful, inspiring behaviour. This is the reason why we don't believe the police should have the right to search a citizen's property unless a warrant has been granted or in case of imminent danger. Currently, the police may search an individual's property if they have "reasonable grounds to suspect a crime has been committed". We believe this is too open to subjective judgement by the police force, when it should be a judicial matter that eventually results in the issuing of a warrant if such suspicion had reason to be, and, more importantly, it could lead to power abuse by the police. Libertarian Citizens propose to change this to: The police cannot search a person or their property without their consent unless the police have obtained a warrant from a court or in cases of imminent danger. |

Message | The NFP trusts the judgement of our law enforcement officers enough to vote against this law and insist on reasonable grounds being valid justification for searches. It seems irresponsible for the government to take away that discretion from judicial agents. |
Date | 01:59:11, September 30, 2015 CET | From | Libertarian Citizens | To | Debating the Police Search Act |
Message | We see the NFP's point and respect it. Libertarian Citizens would like to express their utter confidence in Beluzian police bodies. It is in fact to take the burden from their shoulders that we propose this bill. Also, we believe it would also prevent any opportunistic, power-hungry individuals from joining the police force. |
