Bill: Firefighters Are Not The Central Government's to Control Act.
Details
Submitted by[?]: Liberal-Progressive Union
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: April 2173
Description[?]:
Since it is difficult to control a national fire department and since they are spread out throughout the nation in such a wide fashion, the local governments should have control. Keeping national control over a department that was designed for and who are in charge of, protecting the towns and cities of the entire nation and who do not work for the national government. Local governments who are able to make decisions regarding the fire department without needing the approval from the national government will make the managment of departments much easier. |

Message | Do note, the national government does not control the fire department, merely guarantees it funding and its ability to work as a cohesive force with good funding. |

Message | But the control is still with the central government which is what I assume since it is not stated. This actually gives complete control to the local government in all areas and the funding can be better used due to the local knowledge of the exact needs of funding. The central government may not give enough, or give to much to each city for there funding as they are out of touch with the departments which they have little or no contact with. |

Message | The problem with allowing the complete control to be given to the local governments is that we have no ability to control how, where, or doing what the money is spent. It could be that local government is running a deficit and so cuts the money to the fire service, but as National Government would have no more say in the matter, it could not be stopped. |

Message | We could accept this law as fire services rarely need to work together. When they do need multiple forces then these would be under the same local government allowing good cooperation under both systems. We, however, would still prefer funding to be allocated at a national level and for the national government to be in control of fire prevention programs. |

Message | I agree that the potential for funding problems exist, but funding can never be perfect or honest at any level of government. The local funding does simplify things so there may be less waste, and the local officials are responsible for the same fire departments and towns where they might live themselves. So they must answer for their own actions while the central government has no connection to anyone or anything in the towns that they are funding. That's a greater problem than any that the local government may have with control of the department. |

Message | How about the national government gives money to the local governments, which then distribute it to individual stations? |

Message | We could agree to that, but with that point there would be no requirement to change the proposal as the National Government would still be funding the system. |

Message | Could this not lead to even more administration? |
Date | 00:34:29, January 18, 2006 CET | From | National Imperial Hobrazian Front | To | Debating the Firefighters Are Not The Central Government's to Control Act. |
Message | No support. A national department can coordinate for disasters such as forest fires, oil fires, etc. |

Random fact: When you join the game, you will find yourself with only zero seats. That's because your party's representatives haven't been elected yet. You need to establish your party's position on issues by proposing several bills that your party wants passed and sending them to vote. This raises your visibility and if you do it enough, you will win seats at the next election. |
