Bill: Child Welfare Reform Act 3951
Details
Submitted by[?]: Progresīvs Partija
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: July 3952
Description[?]:
Currently, the state guarantees child benefits to ALL families. However not all families need child benefits, under current legislation millionaires are receiving benefits! To close this loophole, we propose changing this to only low-income or poor families being given child benefit. Do note that families not before classified as such which are now struggling financially due to children will also be receiving child benefit. We believe that it should be handed out on a case by case basis in these situations. |

Message | Mr. Speaker, We remain convinced of the case for maintaining child benefit as a universal benefit, available to all those caring for children. The provision of child benefit as a universal benefit which is not means-tested sends out the clearest signal that as a society, we value children and recognise the burdens involved in caring for them. Universal child benefit also helps to retain support for the welfare system amongst those who are better off. Prime Minister Mikelis Skriveris |

Message | Mr Speaker So you believe that the government should give money to millionaires, but want pensions to be compulsory so that is doesn't strain the taxpayer? What marvellous logic your party has, we congratulate you on it! |

Message | Mr. Speaker, It is not such a bad thing to give high income earners back a very small portion of what they contribute to the state through their taxes. Politically, doing this helps to maintain the support of these people for the principle of the welfare state. Prime Minister Mikelis Skriveris |
