Bill: "Unity" Cabinet of 3952

Details

Submitted by[?]: National Progressive Union

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill presents the formation of a cabinet. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. Traditionally, parties in the proposal vote yes, others (the opposition) vote no. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in and all parties in the proposal have voted yes, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: March 3953

Description[?]:

This will be a cabinet for the people. For too long, sections of our country have been neglected in our nation's cabinet. They've found themselves on the wrong side of the political divide, and their voices have often gone ignored at the top of our government. I am guilty of this, as are most in this Parliament.

As things stand, our current cabinet does not reflect our country. This will be a step, I hope, in the direction of increased communication and cooperation between the parties. May we retain our differences, but find common ground.

As part of this new cabinet, all members of the original republican coalition have received three positions. The monarchist factions are given two per party, in fields that the respective parties have shown interest in. It is my hope that the largest party may always hold two positions -- Head of Government and Internal Affairs -- and that this policy will be embraced even if the NDP is not at the head of our country. For the purposes of this cabinet and the duration of my next term as President, the NDP will hold the responsibilities of Education and Culture, though I would like to see this position given to the second largest party, after the next elections take place.

This is not a political power-play, nor is it some sort of deal to win the support of one party or another. No, this is merely a step toward giving the monarchist parties a voice in the federal cabinet.

President of the Federal Republic of Hutori

MessageTo the Honorable MP Young,

I came to the conclusion that the Royalist Party may be interested in holding the responsibilities of Health and Social Services after looking back at your party's history and noting various instances which your party has shown strong interest in this field. We had reviewed your initial Health Care Reform Platform from the previous century, as well as votes and discussion made by members of the RP up until now. As for Infrastructure and Transport, your party has been vocal in the past about government intervention in public works projects, as with your vote in the Airport Reforms of 3899.

Quite simply, we believed that the first office would allow your party to have a greater say in various medical and social projects which it has been vocal about in the past, while the second office would give the RP more discretion as to how our government interacts with the people and with the private sector.

MessageMr. President

We will gladly accept these portfolios and join in your National Unity Cabinet. We were merely expressing our surprise that your Esteemed Office looked so far back through our voting record and history and noted our interest these fields over half a century ago.

We would also like to extend a thank you to the Honourable Leah Ross, the soon to be former Prime Minister and retired as Party Leader of the RAH after serving as its leader since 3935. When she leaves office she'll have served as the longest serving Prime Minister in Hutorian history, both years served and consecutive Mandates given. She served under three seperate Presidents with distinction who saw in it to continue her leadership and custodianship of the Cabinet. While her staunch support of the Royalist cause may not resonate with the Republican Parties of this House no one could deny her dedication to the Hutorian people, this government and to this nation.

MessageThe Civic Party will support this proposal. We also feel it should be also noted that the Honourable Daniel Xavier will be retiring as Minister of Justice. He has served the capacity as Minister of Justice since 3937 originally appointed by President Woodbury. Under Mr. Xavier the Federal Republic of Hutori has experienced low overall crime and has helped the Ministry of Justice build strong relationships with the citizens of Hutori.
