Bill: Anti-Conscription Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Liberal Progressive Alliance

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: December 3953

Description[?]:

M. Speaker,

There is no place for conscription in our nation. Not now, not ever. Forcing all of our young people to serve in the military is absolutely awful. Our young citizens deserve to be able to choose their own paths in life.

MessageMr. Speaker,

We will endorse this proposal enthusiastically. Conscription is unnecessary in modern times, as we have the economic and logistical capability to field a large and elite professional military.

MessageMr Speaker,

Defending the realm and our citizens is the first duty of government. We would never support measures such as this which would weaken our national defence.

I would also note the strong role that the military and national service plays in ensuring a common culture in our society. My national service was a few years ago but I still have firm lessons from it and the discipline which it taught me - and the common cause with other citizens of this great country - stay with me to this day.

This bill should be voted down.

MessageM. Speaker,

John Smith is being contradictory. Why would he want the defense budget increased, and yet keep conscription? As the minister has said, we have the technology and the funds to build a significant and extremely effective military. We simply do not need conscription in this day and age.

I am pleased to hear that Mr. Smith benefited from serving in the military. He chose to serve because that was clearly what he wanted to do, and has gained much from that. But it is vital that every young person can choose their own path too. Every citizen is different, and will bring different sets of skills to our nation. Making everyone serve in the military will waste so many skills that could be utilised in other areas. Soldiers should be serving in the military. Not teachers, actors, artists, journalists and every other type of person. Lodamun is a place for freedom and opportunity - and conscription will put a stop to that.

It is wrong to send people who are not cut out to serve to die. Because that is what will happen if John Smith gets his way.

MessageMr Speaker,

Our wholehearted support for the military is not contradictory. We will defend it and its traditions forever.

Mrs Ryan is right to raise the issue that the military is not for everyone. We would consider supporting an amendment to the national service requirements which allowed young citizens to undertake civilian service rather than strictly military service. There are many ways in which young people can serve their country and learn valuable skills and discipline.

MessageMr. Speaker,

NWL supports the current law. Military service is a huge lesson for young adults that will be making their first steps in life. We will oppose to this proposal.

MessageMr Speaker,

I find it odd that the LPA think it is unacceptable for each citizen to serve the military for a short-period of time, but is completely fine with citizens living life in servitude to the government through punishing 65% tax rates.

It appears that the LPA are okay with forcing citizens to do their duty, as long as it serves their agenda.

The Court of Shades will oppose this measure.
