Bill: Vote of no confidence in the Minister of Internal Affairs
Details
Submitted by[?]: Traditional Alliance
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 3954
Description[?]:
The Minister of Internal Affairs (a PLP appointee) has made a grave error in judgement in using the state security services for political ends by investigating peaceful political opponents. This house no longer has confidence in her and demands that the President and Prime Minister remove her from office. To ensure future independence of this office ahead of the upcoming elections we demand that this role be filled by another member of the coalition (either LSDP, CS or PLUP) for the remainder of this parliament. |

Message | Mr Speaker, I urge all parties to support this motion to send a message to the LPA that they are not above the law. Opposition voices must be heard without the fear of a knock at the door from the secret police. Regardless of whether you agree with the positions of the TA, you must vote in favour of this motion if you value freedom and democracy. John Smith TA Leader |

Message | M. Speaker, There has been nothing secretive about this investigation. I have been very open and transparent with the Parliament. I could have easily conducted this investigation without other parties knowing, but I chose not to do so. This is a perfectly legal operation. I am perfectly within my rights as Minister of Internal Affairs to launch any investigation into any domestic issue. The TA have been classified by my office as an extremist group. Therefore, it is perfectly within my rights as Minister to launch an investigation to determine whether they are peaceful or pose a threat to national security, as we do with all extremist groups. In fact this is one of the responsibilities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs! I have been open and honest from the very beginning - issuing a statement here: http://forum.particracy.net/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=57&p=94150#p94160 There is nothing illegal or secretive about this investigation. Message | Mr. Speaker, we would like to know whether or not there has been any evidence found in this matter. Is TA indeed harmful for this nation? Has the Minister erred? We cannot make a decision here without being informed properly. Lort Karav NWL chairman |

Message | M. Speaker, I am more than happy to assist Mr. Karav. The investigation is ongoing. I expect that it will be completed towards the end of the year. Some evidence has been found, but the officials conducting the investigation need to determine whether or not this evidence results in a threat towards our national security. But in respect to my own conduct, I have done nothing more than my job as Minister of Internal Affairs. Nothing more, nothing less. Tracey Lavosh Minister of Internal Affairs |

Message | Mr. Speaker, we would like to know if the Minister of Internal Affairs had any indication to make these allegiations towards TA in the press. If there was any information leading to this judgement, we would like to know about it. As a democratic party we can't stand any party or person being nationally accused on the basis of suspicions or personal thoughts. We do not claim the TA to be clear, but on the other hand we would like to be sure that there is any prove at all for the TA to be a terrorist group. Lort Karav NWL chairman |

Message | Mr Speaker, Like the NWL, we more details on the investigation before making a decision. Would the LPA be able to make a private briefing to the Ministry of Justice, so my department can be fully aware on this issue. Jane Black Minister of Justice |
Date | 00:37:29, December 17, 2015 CET | From | Court of Shades | To | Debating the Vote of no confidence in the Minister of Internal Affairs |
Message | Mr Speaker, I have been made away of coalition agreements between the LPA and the CoS that mean we must vote opposed to this legislation. Jane Black Acting Leader of the CoS |
