Message | The AAS actually supports testing. We test adopting parents, the same formalities SHOULDD be present in our non-adoptive population... Or, we should abandon testing of adopting parents also. On the other hand, we always objected to the fact that the current law has 'no teeth' anyway. If they don't test, they STILL get to keep the children.... makes the whole system just a little pointless. The AAS will vote in favour of this resolution. |

Message | Adopted parents and natural parents are somewhat different, therefore should not come under the same laws. |

Message | Different how? They need to give different care? There is a different burden of responsibility? Adoptive parents need to 'love' their children differently? The ONLY difference, is the location and trajectory of the eggs and sperm at the moment of conception. |

Message | We would have thought the only difference is bioligical lineage. |

Message | Yes, same. The ISM believes that a biological parent should not be going through testing to see whether or not they should look after their own offspirng. However potential adoptess have to go through checks, simply to ensure they don't have a history of child abuse etc. |

Message | And yet... 'birth' parents are NOT checked to see if they have a history of child abuse? It seems bizarre, that an adoptive parent, who is willing to spend all the money, and go through all the paper-work... is treated as a second-class citizen, behind a pair of teenagers who couldn't keep their underwear on their own bodies. |

Message | Quite rightly too. |
