Message | Mr. Speaker, The argument behind this bill has nothing to do with the legislation at all. The government doesn't force anyone to become firemen; persons seek to become firemen as a job. By abolishing the national fire department, we will be leaving many firefighters unemployed. Yes, they can spend their time volunteering to fight fires, but they won't be paid. We cannot support this bill. -- Trevor Fertig, Chairman of the GNRG |

Message | Mr. Speaker, When it comes to protection of our people whether it is police, firemen, ambulances failure is not an option. Our people deserve the best when it comes to their emergency needs. So their lives may continue as they wish. Anne Zocker Co-Leader of the LNUP |

Message | Ok I will admit the argument had fault but just because it would be volunteer work doesn't mean they won't be paid for their service. And if they really want to fight fires the firemen or women wont lose their jobs if they just re volunteer for it. And most certainly be paid for it by the fire departments themselves. Volunteer work doesn't necessarily mean unpaid work. Stephen Lodamun President of Lodamun |

Message | Mr. Speaker, The bill did not explicitly state that the volunteers will be paid. The only thing the new legislation explicitly states is that equipment and expenses of fire stations will be paid for by the government. If the volunteers are being paid, what is the difference between the current law and the proposed law? -- Trevor Fertig, Chairman of the GNRG |

Message | For starters I assumed, which I probably should not have, that expenses included paychecks. As for the difference between current and proposed law, this is how I saw it going in to this. Currently the law is making it a full time profession, as it should be no doubt. But we see a need for greater flexibility in this field of work. Not everyone, who is at a fire fighter should have to stay at work all day doing nothing, fires don't happen every where at all times. They have life's outside of this. If a fire fighter wants to work all week but take a few days off he or she can and not have to worry about being fired for it. If a fire fight wants to work all the time or minimally because they have a job, another career, or maybe it's a sort of part time for a student at a university, then they can do it. And they won't be bothered by a schedule. (OOC:I should have put this into the description, just bear with me I have played this game for some time now, but I'm still fairly new and still learning, plus I didn't think of this until just now.) |

Message | Mr. Speaker, The proposed law does not employ firefighters, so it can't be assumed that "paychecks" would be a covered expense. It has replaced employed firefighters with volunteers, but promises to still cover equipment. The arguments used to defend this law are either based on nonsense or dishonesty. Nothing in the current law states that all firefighters have to stay at a station all day, doing nothing. Those assumptions are ridiculous. It is reasonable to allow some firefighters to take time off while others stay at the station. -- Trevor Fertig, Chairman of the GNRG |
