Message | Could a clause be added that the government will not permit the militarization of space? The CCF supports lifting the ban on space exploration, but we must draw the line at companies wishing to put lasers or military space platforms in orbit. |
Date | 05:51:55, May 22, 2005 CET | From | CNT/AFL | To | Debating the Unlimited Frontier Act |
Message | There is no way the CNT/AFL will support this bill in the current form. We do support the lifting of the ban on space exploration. The first option we would choose would be to establish a state-funded agency to look into the peaceful use of space, but that not being practical, we support the establishment of an Outer Space Commission to determine the ramifications of space exploration, and eventually a regulatory body to oversee such exploration. |
Date | 06:24:14, May 22, 2005 CET | From | Chorus of Amyst | To | Debating the Unlimited Frontier Act |
Message | The Council believes that unregulated allowance of research into space technologies will yield the fastest, most rewarding results. However, a clause preventing unauthorized weaponry research can certainly be implemented. |
Date | 09:22:54, May 22, 2005 CET | From | National People's Gang | To | Debating the Unlimited Frontier Act |
Message | 1. "totally unregulated" 2. "except for military fields" 3. Oxymoronic |
Date | 21:16:24, May 22, 2005 CET | From | MLTP (The Resistance) | To | Debating the Unlimited Frontier Act |
Message | The MLTP will not support this bill in its current form, but will support it in the former way proposed by the CNT/AFL, or possibly the latter way. |
Date | 08:11:30, May 23, 2005 CET | From | Chorus of Amyst | To | Debating the Unlimited Frontier Act |
Message | (( Many of the possible subjects of legislation have wordings that don't match what is desired. The closest one is the one that has the government issue permits, but that will raise an entirely different point - that is, the creation of the permit-issuing agency, which would, under that wording, not be left only to military usage. )) The MLTP and CNT/AFL seek to stunt economic and scientific growth by limiting space research to the government sector. Such a move would bloat any space program with inefficient bureaucracy, wasting both money and time. |
Date | 16:54:35, May 23, 2005 CET | From | Cooperative Commonwealth Federation | To | Debating the Unlimited Frontier Act |
Message | ((There is a separate proposal in the queue about militarization of space, apparently.)) |
Date | 17:58:42, May 23, 2005 CET | From | National People's Gang | To | Debating the Unlimited Frontier Act |
Message | ((There is a significant difference between the interpretation of loosely-worded proposals and bills which are contrary to the specifics of the proposal. "Totally unregulated" is tautologically specific.)) |
Date | 01:30:52, May 24, 2005 CET | From | CNT/AFL | To | Debating the Unlimited Frontier Act |
Message | We, in the CNT/AFL are prepared to support these options only. # The government shall fully fund a state-owned space agency which controls all national space-related activity. # The government shall operate a space agency that contracts with and oversees private space-exploration companies. |
Date | 02:38:33, May 24, 2005 CET | From | Chorus of Amyst | To | Debating the Unlimited Frontier Act |
Message | The Council will support neither of those options. (( I'm gonna drop this bill for now until the militarization one goes through, unless anyone really wants this driven through right now for some reason. )) |
Date | 04:33:03, May 24, 2005 CET | From | Cooperative Commonwealth Federation | To | Debating the Unlimited Frontier Act |
Message | The militarization of space is listed as "on hold," which means "acceptable proposals but are unlikely to be implemented without being better able to adapt to the format of the game." |
Date | 05:28:18, May 24, 2005 CET | From | Chorus of Amyst | To | Debating the Unlimited Frontier Act |
Message | (( Damn it. :D )) The Council has changed the bill to allow companies to research with a government permit. If the Albert Party wants to rip this open with tautology, go ahead, but the Council would like to use the current proposition to call for required permits for military endeavors while leaving non-military issues unregulated. |
Date | 17:42:35, May 24, 2005 CET | From | Cooperative Commonwealth Federation | To | Debating the Unlimited Frontier Act |
Message | If the wording includes a clause that "companies will not be permitted to deploy military technology in space," then this bill will have CCF support. It might be useful to also state that Lodamun-based companies operating in space will still be required to abide by national laws (such as the requirement to recycle, and assuming the foreign investment bill is passed, the prevention of foreign ownership of our airspace). |
Date | 18:22:50, May 24, 2005 CET | From | National People's Gang | To | Debating the Unlimited Frontier Act |
Message | Tautologically speaking, we know think this fits with interpretation of a proposal and regulation, covering military development, is entirely apt. We agree with CCF that this act should make specific reference to the Foreign Investment Law. We'll even go as far as voting in favour. How's that for consensus politics? |
Date | 20:49:59, May 24, 2005 CET | From | Chorus of Amyst | To | Debating the Unlimited Frontier Act |
Message | The bill has been altered to specifically note that all Lodamun laws still apply as normal. Please note the wording of the military section, in case that's not what your party would want - the Council hardly wishes to trick parties into supporting this bill. If there are no further objections, the Council will bring this bill to vote. |
Date | 22:01:04, May 24, 2005 CET | From | Cooperative Commonwealth Federation | To | Debating the Unlimited Frontier Act |
Message | No objections here -- the revised version meets all CCF concerns. |
Date | 23:05:14, May 24, 2005 CET | From | CNT/AFL | To | Debating the Unlimited Frontier Act |
Message | The revised bill is better, we might just vote yes now. |
Date | 10:42:35, May 25, 2005 CET | From | National People's Gang | To | Debating the Unlimited Frontier Act |
Message | We suggest this is ready to go for vote. |
