Bill: Re-establishing the Personal Union with Indrala (OOC Version)

Details

Submitted by[?]: Radical Liberal Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: December 4022

Description[?]:

I've been contacted by the main party in Indrala about establishing a personal union between our nations, now historically this has happened before and existed for some time. Given my party leaders heritage it would make sense for my party to back this proposal, this is what we outlined would happen if it were to go ahead.

- The president would be an elected position much like the Viceroy of Australia or Canada (although they aren't elected, ours would be).

- We would maintain full sovereignty, it would be a move to strengthen ties in the wake of fighting a war together, it would be a march forward together, for development and prosperity, etc.

- Indrala did found much of Vinitalli, etc. so it is plausible to re-establish such a union.

I'd just like to get others OOC thoughts before we start to move on this idea ICly

MessageOOC: Could be fun. Could this be a little similar to the EU? If so then my party could push for independence, it'd make RP interesting.

MessageOOC: It's like uh, Scotland and England would be the easiest thing to compare it too, however the two states are effectively equal, but the monarch of Indrala would run the country with the Viceroy being ceremonial

MessageOOC: Actually the monarch would be ceremonial and the viceroy would perform the duties as the elected representative, unless you want the monarch to actually carry out the duties, then that could be arranged.

MessageOOC: That would be up to everyone else, I just read the message wrong. So having the Viceroy performing duties would be preferable.

MessageI think Viceroy is fine, but i prefer "Protector General". I spoke with Liu about this before, and apparently it's the closest thing the Chinese had to a viceregal position when they originally conquered the Tarim Basin during the Han and Tang Dynasties.

But I don't mind the title that much. =) The monarchy I fully support though.

(on a related matter, we should get to Cultural Protocol affirmation /revision at some point soon..)

MessageOh, adopting a monarch? That's something I'm obviously against I'm afraid.

MessageTo explain the potential situation, you would have something like what Luthori has now. You elect a Viceroy/Governor General/Protector General, etc. every election cycle that serves as the monarch's representative in Gaduridos with that individual carrying out normal head of state functions in the name of the monarch. When the monarch visits, they will carry out the purely ceremonial actions, keeping the government and monarch separate, in addition to allowing you to have an elected head of state. Therefore, this arrangement is a balance between republicanism and pure monarchy.

MessageI like the system, well I mean and the LSP helped put that in place in Luthori.

MessageThe Viceroy in Luthori was created as a compromise between royalists and republicans in Luthori. Do note that Luthori has a long history of monarchy in their nation. Gaduridos does not.

MessageBut Gaduridos does have a strong history of an affinity with Indrala. During Free Gaduridos, the Indralan monarch was named Hegemon of Gaduridos and Defender of the Gaduri Gao-Showas, while each Gaduri Consul was made the Marquis of Shan in Indrala. This arrangement was already semi-monarchical and it lasted for hundreds of years, then Gadurdos moved forward and officially made the Indralan monarch the Hegemon King of Gaduridos.

Before Free Gaduridos, Gaduridos and Pontesi shared a monarch for hundreds of years, so in actuality, Gaduridos has a long history of monarchy.

MessageWhat Liu said. Gaduridos used to be a colony under the Belknap dynasty of Pontesi (the place were I came from). After the Pontesians (who IMHO should be a small number in the protocols) retreated, Indrala took over as the nominal hegemon.

The Viceroy system has been around in many places and doesn't rule out being a republic or having elections for the HoS. There is also another argument to be made: calling the Head of Sate of Gaduridos "President" is unhistorical. During Free Gaduridos, it was "Consul", and the head of government was called "Minister-President". Gaduridos' current titles for its HoS and HoG are unessential bland and generic in comparison with its history.

MessageWell as a staunch republican in Luthori, I'm bound to be the same here. Plus according to the cultural protocols, only 15% of the population are Indralian.
