Bill: Universality of Health

Details

Submitted by[?]: Alorian Radical-Leftist Party (ARL)

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: March 3996

Description[?]:

Recognising the decent healthcare record within Aloria.

Worried, however, that some standards have the ability to be improved upon.

Pointing out primarily the Government's stance on food safety, vaccinations and pharmaceutical drugs, two prominent ways of stopping disease.

Considering the positive impact of a *centralised* food safety system on the restaurants and food producers of our nation.

Further noting that many positive effects will come from a centralised standard, such as;
- Inter-regional food sale,
- A more organised food safety commission which does not need to take regional laws into account,
- And the health of civilians in case of a disease outbreak connected to food.

Leading on somewhat from this issue, noting that the current stance on vaccination lies in an opt-out system for religious reasons.

Further noting that there is NO logical reason to put a child's life in danger, nor the lives of others around the nation.

Stressing that vaccination is the reason why many diseases of ages gone past have now all but disappeared, such as polio, smallpox and bubonic plague.

Acknowledging that allowing some parents to 'opt out' with the current vaccine system will only allow opportunity for these diseases to mutate and possibly even return on pandemic levels.

Therefore, regarding the completely universal vaccination of children an absolute priority.

Finally, noting that the government's policy on pharmaceutical drugs allows families on low income to receive government-provided drugs should need arise.

Respecting that this system supports strongly the working history of our nation of Aloria.

However, understanding that it is not only the poor who need medications.

Recognising that the aim of most pharmaceutical companies is profit, as is the case with many corporations.

Further recognising that the aim of pharmaceutical companies should be to provide medication to those who need it, and not to extort those who need to pay.

Therefore, requesting that the policies on pharmaceutical drugs and medications be universalised, allowing for all families to receive equal treatment in regards to their medical wellbeing.

Understanding that this proposal may not be universally accepted, and so, room for debate is now to be provided over this issue, which the ALR considers to be very important to the wellbeing of all Alorians.

The Alorian Radical-Leftist Party hereby proposes the current 'Universality of Health' bill.

MessageTo the CPA: Why so? Do you have any better ideas? Or will the Conservative party simply refuse to debate an idea if it goes against their preconceived ideals?

MessageWe will also oppose. We like have a problem with pharmaceutical companies being run on a for-profit basis, as long as the standard of the service is maintained at a high level. We also think parents should be able to opt out for religious or ideological reasons. However, we would support the enforcement of food standards provisions if it was proposed in a separate bill.

MessageWe do not believe that pharmaceutical drugs should be paid for or subsidised by the state. Pharmaceutical companies should run on a for-profit basis and have complete freedom to decide on pricings. (OOC: I do not want to get into an argument about political economics here.) We are, however, open (like the ANP) to an examination of food safety provisions. - CPA

MessageI can tell there is a backlash on the pharmaceutical party, but it is completely necessary to mandate vaccinations, surely. The science has shown time and again that there are no negative effects, and so there is no logical reason why children should be without vaccinations.
