Bill: Eliminating the Death Penalty
Details
Submitted by[?]: Liberty Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 2174
Description[?]:
We believe that the fundamental irreversibility of the death penalty, combined with the inevitability of human error and corruption means that we cannot have absolute certainty in an individual's guilt, we cannot permanently deprive him of his life. Or, as Amnesty International puts it, "The death penalty legitimizes an irreversible act of violence by the state and will inevitably claim innocent victims. Since human justice is fallible, the risk of executing the innocent will never be eliminated." |
