| The United Progressive Party announces the holding of its Opposition Tax Bill, or the Bill it would install should it ever become a majority party. The UPP believes that the burden shouldn't be placed on the lower and middle classes but rather the upper classes. The Opposition Tax Bill does the following: - Raises the minimum income qualified to be taxed from 1,000 to 5,000 which gives the poorest of society a 0% tax rate. - Those under the 10% bracket now all fall under the 5% bracket, giving again the poor and middle class a lesser tax rate. - Instead of beginning the 30% tax rate at the very high income of 30,000 it starts at 20,000 shifting the upper classes to be taxed their fair share. - Introduces a 50% tax rate for the very richest of society which starts at 25,000. Overall millions of low income persons will no longer have to pay taxes, or they will pay considerably less in taxation. The current revenue of income taxation brings in 94 billion, this tax plan is a small decrease and brings in 92 billion. We again create this bill to serve as a position statement, and do not expect the government to oblige. It will remain in the hopper until the UPP has the power or support to enact it. |
