| The Social Democratic Alliance held its party congress in January 4028, which resulted in the ouster of Silvio Amato from the party leadership, in favor of Antonio Battisti (defense minister 4017-4023). The passing of the latter's proposed policy motion pushed the party in a far more nationalist and populist direction, and further involved a rebranding and name change. The internal disputes within the new PDS party led to 9 of 13 cabinet members resigning, with many party members joining the opposition AdCD. Battisti subsequently announced his intention of seeking a fresh mandate, by calling for new elections and running for President of Istalia. |
