Message | Mr. Speaker, I would like to know in what way this will affect our economy. If there would be a significant change, for the best, we would consider to support this proposal. Lomme Skrtel LNC |

Message | This is why we should have reciprocal tariffs, they are established individually with different Nations. Its not a one size fits all sort of deal. It will be different, possibly, with each and every nation. A tariff is a extra tax that some nation has to pay to take something from us, and vice versa, so if we go around taxing everyone with the same, and potentially unreasonable tax, then it will make them less willing to trade with us in the future. With a reciprocal tax, we can negotiate with them the amount of tax we will charge them on their imports, and with a agreement, each nation agrees to charge us a given amount. Which would usually be about the same amount, and if we can't agree on an amount, we have to renegotiate. This is a reciprocal tariff, but there is also the possibility that there can be no tariff, tax, at all. And that will lead to the most trade with other nations, repeatedly in the future. And the more trade we do, the more money we can make. It's a win win. Andrew Lodamun PLUP President |
