MessageRemember that sattelites; which are in many ways the most important usage of our planetary orbit, are largely owned and operated by private profit-seeking firms.

Further, if you look at older technologies, such as nuclear power, aircraft, night vision, etc.: In all of these cases, government funding and research made the things possible, but private entreprenuership made it a beneficial part of society.
