Bill: Trade Union Reform Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Imperial Alliance

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 4056

Description[?]:

There are circumstances where an employer should not be banned from removing striking workers from their employ. The current law is too restrictive and gives far too much power to trade union militants.

MessageMadam Speaker,

We don't want to anger the SLP, but if a worker strikes because the refrigerator of his office doesn't have enough food supplies or if the toilet is dirty and not sanitised and has dog or cat poo all over the floor (laughter), then that should be controlled. So we are reversing our previous opinion of not letting employers fire workers who have gone on strike to give them more freedom (as we are patriotic). Actually, we're not. Let me tell you something about patriotism:

Where are you off to now?"
"I`m going to join the army."
"But, legally you`re only an infant."
"That`s all right, I`m going to join the infantry."

(laughter)

As we are all free. Wait a minute. We're not free. We are four (laughter). So we urge the Federal Senate to pass this as to give employers more freedom, but regulated ones

MessageWhat if an employer considers their pay "reasonable". Then they fire strikers that want better pay. Madam speaker, this gives too much power to employers and will effectively repeal striking. This is unacceptable under any Circumstance.

MessageOOC: The laws in Particracy aren't spelled out in great detail, but in the case of this law, I think it would be fair to presume there would be some kind of independent tribunal which would determine whether employers had fired striking workers unfairly.

Random fact: When you join the game, you will find yourself with only zero seats. That's because your party's representatives haven't been elected yet. You need to establish your party's position on issues by proposing several bills that your party wants passed and sending them to vote. This raises your visibility and if you do it enough, you will win seats at the next election.
