Most culture is drawn from the Xia, Shang, Zhou, and Han Dynasties, with modern influences coming from a mix of 20th century Qing Dynasty, Republic of China, and People's Republic of China. An overwhelming majority is based on the Xia, Shang, Zhou, and Han Dynasties. BRIEF PRE-GAME HISTORY: Indrala has a long pre-game history that is most likely one of the oldest in Dovani. The Gao-Showan peoples first migrated to Indrala from Seleya, eventually fully populating Indrala and creating the first Dovanian civilization known as Mengmai. Eventually, the Kingdom of Gemu-Erka was formed, the first kingdom in Dovani. From here, the Gao-Showan peoples spread first to Dankuk in the north and Kimlien in the South and eventually to most of Dovani. Indralan colonists also founded the Empire of Ananto and what became Gaduridos in Seleya. In the 900s, Indrala was united under the Xin Han (New Galaxy) Empire, which maintained unity for around 200 years. After the fall of the Xin Han state, Shuro Dureas reunited Indrala under the Commonwealth. During this period, Indrala maintained trade relations with many nations, eventually being colonized by Aloria (in a similar way India was colonized by Great Britain), but allowed to largely maintain its culture. Eventually, the colonists were thrown out by communist revolutionaries and Indrala became a republic. During the Republican Era, the government fluctuated between leftist and rightist governments, eventually falling in the late 2900s to the Nationalist Party's new Commonwealth under a new monarchy led by the Deng Clan. From here, Indrala has remained a traditionalist monarchical state ever since, eventually going on to create the largest empire in Terran history through its numerous colonies. Presently, Indrala has been a monarchy far longer in its history than a republic, with most Indralans considering monarchy, in one form or another, to be parts of their cultural heritage, making Indrala a unique and special nation among the other nations of Terra. ETHNICITY: Indralans=Han Chinese (no mixture from Mongolic peoples) Dihn=Vietnamese Phra=Thai Bianjie=Manchu Utari=Ainu Percentages of the Population Indralans=92% Dihn=4% Phra=1% Bianjie=1% Utari=1% Other=1% *Please note, these numbers, while not stagnant, should not fluctuate wildly. Large demographic changes should only occur with an extensive RP, and consent of all involved. Indralans are the dominant ethnicity and based on the Han Chinese prior to the interbreeding of Han Chinese with Mongolic and Southeast Asian peoples. Dihn, Phra, Bianjie, and Utari peoples immigrated to Indrala during the period of the Republican, 2nd Commonwealth, and New Imperial periods when Indrala maintained an extensive colonial empire. The Dihn are from Kimlien, the Phra from Hanzen, the Bianjie from Bianjie, and the Utari from Utari-Mosir. LANGUAGE: Indralan=Zhongyuan (Central Plains) Mandarin Chinese of the Luoyang Dialect written using Traditional Chinese characters. Sometimes Latin characters are used due to the Alorian influence, but has been on decline for hundreds of years. Pinyin is used for phonetics. Dihn=Northern Vietnamese written in chu nom and Latin characters. Bianjie=Manchurian Phra=Thai Utari=Ainu Japanese Luthorian=English The most widely spoken language is Indralan, which is taught in all levels of schooling. Government business is strictly conducted in Classical Chinese. Luthorian is used more as a business and diplomatic language outside of the Gao-Showan nations. The other languages are taught by the members of the communities to which they belong and in schools for those who are interested in learning them. RELIGION Guidao/Jienism=Chinese folk religion and Confucianism Cheng Daenism=Zen Buddhism Hosianism=Christianity Percentages of the Population Guidao/Jienism=94% Cheng Daenism=1% Hosianism=1% No-religion=4% *Please note, these numbers, while not stagnant, should not fluctuate wildly. The most widely practiced religion in Indrala is Guidao/Jienism (OOC: Chinese folk religion and Confucianism), which has always been the spiritual religion of Indrala since the foundation of the City of Mengmai. Ji Enzi (Jienfushi) was the founder of Jienism, which is a social and moral philosophy that incorporates Guidao, but places a greater emphasis on Tian/Shangdi (God), ancestral veneration, and natural spirits. Jienism plays a major role in Indralan society in is the state philosophy. If something does not adhere to Jienism, it is usually not done in any public way. The religion is led by the Son of Heaven, who is always the monarch of Indrala. Cheng Daenism (OOC: Zen Buddhism) has, from time to time, come to the forefront of Indralan society, often leading to nationalism and war. For these purposes, the government had explicitly targeted the religion as a negative factor in society and converted mass numbers of people to Guidao/Jienism while expelling fervent leaders from the country to the Autonomous Cheng Enclave in Keymon, led by the Patriarch. Hosianism (OOC: Christianity) was founded in 1 CE which believes Eliyahu of Yishelem to be the Spirit of God and the Saviour of mankind. Most Indralan Hosians adhere to the reunified Aurorian Church (Roman Catholic Church), but under the Theognosian Rite (Gallican Church). NAMING: Names should by in Mandarin Chinese, using pinyin (without the tones). A small number of characters with Dihn (OOC: Vietnamese), Phra (OOC: Thai), Bianjie (OOC: Manchurian), and Utari (OOC: Ainu Japanese) names are acceptable. Faction (party) names should be in pinyin with Traditional Chinese characters. If there is enough space, an English translation should be provided in the party page. If the name of the faction is too long, using pinyin in the title is all that is necessary. The name in English and Traditional Chinese characters should be included in the party description.
