Bill: Reasonable Foreign Investment Act

Details

Description[?]:

Madam Speaker

Our current foreign investment laws allow foreign giants to come in and buy as much as they please. While it may help in the short term, in the long term it sees small Beluzian companies being bought up by large multinational corporations that can destroy our home grown competition. Madam speaker, this cannot be allowed to continue.

MessageMadam Speaker,

Though this party sympathises the desire to protect small local businesses, and has worked long and hard to protect and grow SMEs in Beluzia, we feel this move is ill timed.
We are recovering from the reckless overspending and crippling taxes of previous governments. Our economic future is bright with the Daybreak Coalition, but now is not the time to be putting the breaks on investment.

Small businesses create more jobs than large multinationals, and we are not banning foreign investment. We feel that this allows us to get the money from foreign investment while insuring that foreign giants don't buy up large swaths of Beluzian business. My college has not actually provided any economic argument, other than implicitly praising her party as the saviors of the Beluzian economy. What we want to do is protect our business. Why, senator Murry, is it better for our business to allow foreign companies to buy out majority shares in them? How is it better for our manufacturing and our job creators in small business? I argue it only hurts our business by crushing home grown competition and leads to major buyouts from foreign companies thus ensuring that our start up companies are pushed back by foreign companies and individuals.

MessageMadam Speaker,

In normal times, let me be clear, I would agree with Sen. Richards, but right now our economy is in a precarious situation. We are still recovering from the poor handling of the economy over previous governments, and now we're in the process of getting Beluzia working again we need all the investment we can get. 'Beggars can't be choosers', as the saying goes. Foreign investment is no bad thing, but will want to invest in Beluzia if we say "well, yes, you can invest here, but only if you don't do it too much" - that is no recipe for economic growth.

And, for the record, this government *is* the saviour of the Beluzian economy, as Senator Richards should well know, being one of only 65 Senators from the pre-4064 government parties not to be dis-elected from this chamber, after the shambles they left our country in!

MessageOOC: may I ask, are you using actual in game economics numbers, which just gives GDP, or are you just making up economic performance to suit your needs?
