MessageMadam Speaker,

This proposal is yet another crippling blow to the public finances. A further cut now, of over 5bn Beluz is what we see today. Now here was I, thinking a government of the left wing would be a responsible investor in our economy. Instead, at this rate, under this government our public services will soon face cuts! At a time like this we need to be investing in our economy, we cannot be cutting tax revenues by the billions in this way!
Madam Speaker, I have made the case for a bold investment plan for our economy in the chamber before, but today I reiterate my plea to Senators - we cannot afford to cut our public services anymore! Austerity is not the way forward, we need investment!

I hope the Senate will strike down this proposal, and the government will come up with a tax plan that will allow for our economy, the investment it deserves. I beg of Finance Minister Haight, sir, you must save our economy from these drastic austerity measures.

MessageMadam speaker

On a second review of the financial situation we have decided it is finally time to end austerity measures that the previous coalition helped to continue but have been a force since the days of Labour. We need to reintroduce spending in several key programs madam speaker. We also feel that we have eliminated enough people from the lower brackets and it is time for us to reinvest in infrastructure and other departments in order to boost our economy and create new jobs.

SLP shadow finance minister.
