Message | Madam Speaker, I am very proud of Beluzia, and our record of progressive, liberal, open-minded thought. That ethos has come across many a time before in our legislation. What I propose today, heralds yet another liberation for our people from the chains of conformity. I turn first to Article 1. I see it as a discrepancy, that despite both allowing adult couples to have civil marriages, and legalising incestuous acts, Beluzia does not recognise so-called ‘incestuous’ marriages. Madam Speaker, I ask Senators, why? Why should we refuse to recognise marriages simply because the members are otherwise linked? I see no reason to be denying this very simple ability. Further, I wish to have polygamous marriages recognised formally (and equally to monogamous marriages) by our State. We must be accepting of others’ lifestyles, and recognise that some enjoy a polygamous lifestyle. However, they are not afforded a guarantee, as of current, that they can be married to all of their partners. I wish to provide that guarantee, by making the simple clarification as proposed in Article 2. These small changes will not affect Beluzians at large, but will promote tolerance and acceptance of the small minority who wish to pursue to lifestyles pertinent to this Bill’s proposals. It will also make this small number of people very happy, at no cost to the state. So I bid you, Senators, let us be sympathic and open-minded and pass this Bill. Sen. Random fact: It is not allowed to call more than 5 elections in 5 game years in a nation. The default sanction for a player persisting in the early election tactic will be a seat reset. |
