MessageMr Speaker,

As new Defence Minister for Baltusia, I have carried out a full review of our armed forces along with our joint chiefs of staff. Without revealing any sensitive and secret information in this public arena I can give Congress the following breakdown:

Army
Active personnel - 300,000
Reserve personnel - 75,000
Split into 60 battalions which can be deployed in division, corps, army or army group formation through our current chain of command.

Navy
80 commissioned warships, including three fully operational aircraft carriers and a submarine-based nuclear weapons system

Airforce
Six air groups made up of fighter and bomber wings - including long distance nuclear capability.

As outlined in the Coalition Government's proposal I will use the extra budget to update all major defence and weapon systems. I also intend to increase the number of active personnel with a recruitment drive and provide better small arms weaponry and training to all personnel.

As it stands the new budget will cover these proposals. However in next year's review it may be prudent to further increase the department's budget so we can look at increasing our naval and airforce capability as well as further upgrading nuclear capability.

I recommend this review and the spending proposals to the house.

Defence Minister Colonel Octavius Black
