Bill: Budget proposal of May 4077
Details
Submitted by[?]: Knights of the People
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill proposes to change the allocation of funds in the budget. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 4078
Description[?]:
We propose a modification of budget : indeed, we believe that in many areas, insane spending cuts were made by former ruling coalitions. We decided to cut spending on Defence spending in order to redistribute it in sectors that were deliberately let out. |

Message | Madam Speaker, I shall disregard the insidious jabs at previous governments, with regard to spending cuts, and remind members from the KotP of the many occasions I have protested against attempts, during their control of the Finance department, to continue austerity measures long after they are needed. The two most recent non-socialist governments - the New Future Coalition and the Daybreak Coalition - came to power in a time when reckless spending had trashed our economy. These governments took difficult decisions where previous governments had turned a blind eye, and we came out of that dark time. It is thanks to the hard work of those governments that we may invest in our economy now; history will look upon you favourably for not insulting them. And that, Madam Speaker, brings me to this budget proposal. Finally, after almost seven years in control of the Department, Finance Minister Haight has made a decent fist of a Budget proposal; this is an historic day, my friends! Finally, we see the kind of investment in our economy the government should have been making a decade ago, and we welcome it with open arms. In particular, we commend the investment in transport and infrastructure - a sensible economic investment we will reap the rewards of for decades to come! Many areas see a fleshed out and wisely re-adjusted budget, all at a manageable top-line figure increase of 2.1bn Beluz. Madam Speaker, I encourage members from all sides of the Senate to come together and support this wisely-developed (if a little overdue) Budget! Sen. John Bills Finance Spokesperson, New Liberal Party |
