I agree with the sentiments of this Bill's proposition that we should bring change where there is discontent with the current state of affairs, but must disagree with the direction this Bill takes away from the current standing of the system.
In the poll which suggested the current system has 0% support, only 35.81% of respondents said they wanted a nationwide university system, with abolition of the vocational schools and colleges which play a very vital role in our education system; however, a larger portion of 41.36% opted for a local-government controlled model. That means a 53.6% majority of people who want state-funded higher education wish for it to be devolved for local governments.
My party will, therefore support only a devolved model for Higher Education - it is what the people of our country want, and it's what the students of our country deserve.
