MessagePresident Richardson,

I congratulate you on your election victory and hope it will bring continued peace and prosperity to our nation. My first task, however, is to alert you the continuing situation on our border with Kalistan. Our negotiations have reached deadlock and have now broken up with no agreement reached and no accord signed.

However, during the last conversation our delegation had with the Kalistani Labour Party foreign affairs spokesperson we were read a letter from their President stating that conventional Kalistani troops are now being deployed along our border, matching our own conventional defensive troops deployed there.

I have a copy of the letter for Congress here:

"To whom it may concern,

With Baltusia failing to accept a de-escalation and instead introducing conscription, I have no choice but to invite my Defence Minister to deploy troops along the Kalistan-Baltusia border. This should not be seen as an escalation but rather as Kalistan responding in the necessary way to a military build-up along its border. It is with great regret that I take this decision but I cannot allow my citizens to remain at risk of foreign invasion, I would be letting them down immensely. Personally, I remain hopeful that my successor might oversee a return to peace for our time.

Yours Faithfully,
F. Orlando"

Mr President, the heavy burden of what to do now falls upon your shoulders - you must interpret this letter how you see fit. As I am still the incumbent Home Secretary, I must advise you that this move is a clear and present threat to our national security. My colleague, who is the current defence secretary, has also analysed the situation - and despite the rhetoric of non-escalation - believes this move cannot be ignored and that we must remain on high alert and continue with our policy of bolstering our armed forces.

May I ask that you set out a clear pathway for dealing with this turn of events and let Congress know what we need to do.

Thank you all for your time and attention,

Bathsheba Grey,
Home Secretary and Patriotic Party Leader

MessageHome Secretary,

My party thanks you for showing this to Congress but we disagree that we need to continue 'bolstering our armed forces'. From what my party can see from the letter, one reason for this tension is because of our 'military build up along its border'. As a result, we ask the government to stop increasing the armed forces and acting like we're about to go to war. Instead, we wish for you to continue to engage in productive discussion with the Kalistani Government in order to protect our great nation and keep the peace

MessageWe thank Mr Newman for his response and hope that it helps to inform the President's decision. I would urge other parties to give their opinions too.

Personally, I can only speak from what I have experienced in many months of frustrating talks where demands have been laid on our doorstep, with no room for negotiation. Our decisions to bolster military forces in general have been purely precautionary.

MessageI thank the Home Secretary for his letter release and information.

I too attended the peace talks meeting and felt that it didn't de-escalate the situation and Jalistan didn't particularly co operate and respect our decisions and needs, therefore I fully support the decision to bolster are forces and secure our border. It would be betraying he Baltusian people if we didn't protect ourselves against a nation who simply CANT co operate in peace talks.

Thank you.

MessageThank you for your contribution, Mr Leitch. I also thank you for tireless efforts in trying to convince the Kalistani government to implement a DMZ, which would have gone a long way to bringing about the de-escalation so many parties want to see.

Home Secretary and Patriotic Party Leader

MessageKalistan is to begin extensive military exercises on our border and they suggest we withdraw our forces up to 20km to avoid accidental casualties and an international incident (see message on our nation page). I am not surprised by this statement but i hope those parties in Congress who seem to believe our government is escalating this issue now see what is really happening.

Home Secretary Bathsheba Grey.

MessageIndeed Madame Grey, this is awful and I am currently in negotiations with trying to stop these strikes before someone gets killed.
