Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: July 4086
Description[?]:
"It is ridiculous that in vitro fertilization remains illegal in Zardugal. Many couples who are unable to conceive would benefit from the legalization of this practice. For health and safety reasons, it should be regulated, of course, but with medical technology what it is today, it can be safely legalized." -Dosea Cittido, Logothete of Health and Social Services |

Message | IVF is an immoral practice, as it divorces legitimate sexual intercourse within the family unit from reproduction, thus violating natural law. Apart from religious objections to IVF, which include the fact that the practice is inherently based on masturbation, which most major religions in Zardugal condemn, there is a number of ethical issues with assisted reproduction which makes IVF unacceptable. In vitro fertilization violates basic human rights of embryos; parents and doctors get to decide on their genetic makeup without their consent, by selecting against certain diseases (or sometimes, such as in cases of deaf parents, selecting *for* diseases), embryos are routinely discarded, which is nothing but murder, and it is not uncommon, even in a well regulated system, for samples to get mixed up resulting in unclear parentage. We needn't mention the fact that IVF introduces a third party to the reproductive process, making it equivalent to adultery. Androniko Sekstilio Hypoogothete for Health and Social Services |

Message | "I find some of the HDPP's objections to be absolutely hilarious, but that is to be expected coming from a theocratic party. For example, I completely reject the notion that the use of doctors, surrogates, and "third parties" to aid in the reproductive process is equivalent to adultery. Midwives have been used since the days of the Scriptures, and to my knowledge, they were never stoned to death for that reason. That said, the HDPP also brings up some very good points. As part of the regulation of IVF, we propose to ban genetic selection and the discarding of embryos. We also acknowledge the mixing up of samples as a legitimate concern, but in all aspects of life one must accept human error as a possibility, and occasionally one with grave consequences." -Dosea Cittido, Logothete of Health and Social Services |

Random fact: Parties have the ability to endorse another party's candidate for the Head of State election (if there is one). This adds a strategic element to the elections. |
