Message | Why is the government opposed to regulation of energy prices? They seem to niavely believe that competition will keep prices done, but these companies have little direct competition, with the industry set up as it currently is. Private companies currently own and operate all the infrastructure in Rutania's energy industry, from generation to transmission to distribution. Do we expect rival companies to duplicate all that infrastructure to compete with them? Even if they did, this would be incredibly wasteful. Most countries recognise this, and regulate prices in some way. But Rutania's government is blinded by ideology, and so enslaved to the interests of capital, that it rejects even the mildest and most common sense regulation. This is also the reason that the government has sold of the country's airports, and abandoned any role in their operation. Why? An effective and safe transport system needs planning and coordination, not a blind faith in markets. And the reason they give for all of this is that private provision will be 'more efficient'; yet they offer not a single scrap of evidence to back this up. Surely it is only a matter of time before the government get around to healthcare, making arguments about the efficiency of private provision despite all the evidence to the contrary and pretending that they are doing it for patients rather than the wallets of their fat cat donors. |

Random fact: It is possible for a player to transfer ownership of a character or a royal house to another player. This should be done in a public way, such as on the Character Transfers thread, so that if a dispute arises in the future, Moderation can be pointed towards evidence of the transfer. |
