Bill: Protection of Children Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Georgeonian Centrist Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: November 2181

Description[?]:

This Act will take the first steps towards making our great nation a safe environment, in which our children can grow and learn. There are certain activities which, whilst appropriate for mature and responsible adults, are simply unsuitable for children. It is the duty of the state to protect children from these activities. This Act would therefore prohibit children under the age of sixteen years from working, and from buying tobacco or fireworks.

MessageErrm just to let you know, this bill will not pass this side of the elections, probably best to wait until the results have come through. Also a 24 hour debate period is generally appreciated.

MessageChildren under 16 should not need to earn a wage. Their families or the state should support them, and they should be in full time education.

MessageApologies for not leaving this at the debating stage for longer, I didn't realise that was the convention. As I understand it now though, this Bill will return to the debate stage after the elections, so it doesn't matter too much.

MessageGiven the almost universal opposition to this bill, I am removing the article regarding child labour before submitting it to vote. Would people will be willing to back me on the other two issues?

MessageI really don't understand why this bill is getting no support. Surely protecting children from dangerous products like tobacco and fireworks is a good thing?
