Bill: Senate Resolution on the Construction of Nuclear Aircraft Carrier (Debate)

Details

Submitted by[?]: SUN

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 4131

Description[?]:

This bill proposes to readdress and solve the question of the Solentian-Istalian Common Industrial Program (http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=493451). The program was approved, but the question of funding came to a standstill.

Therefore we propose the following:

i. To take a vote of the new Senate to gauge a solid 'yes' or 'no' on the construction of an aircraft carrier.
ii. If the vote is yes, then the Senate asks for a new appropriations bill to add 3 billion SOL to the defence budget for a period of Four Years to pay for the construction, initial maintenance and launching of this new military program. After which the defence budget may be lowered to reflect new changes.

Message"The Unionists take a different view on the necessity of these new carriers, this has been well documented. We are, however, dedicated to the joint foreign policy objectives of the new Government. We applaud the SUN for an effort to involve the Senate in developing a further mandate for the construction programme and although we intend to vote against the commission of a new carrier, we shall support the call for that vote to be held."

MessageWe thank our colleagues our colleagues for their feedback. Seeing as enough time has passed for other parties to reply, we are moving this issue to a vote.

MessageWe initially opposed the bill. However, after reflection we realized two things:
1. Solentian public opinion shows support for our country showing greater presence on the world stage and for greater military and economic development capabilities.
2. An aircraft carrier is one of just a few tools that can be used to assure national sovereignty and peace through strength.

Message"Despite some public support for militarised security strategies, the Unionists continue to put our faith in ancient policies of isolationism and neutrality, which are best served by a military based on cooperation, technological procurement and high-tech economy. We therefore oppose."

Unionist Leader & Foreign Secretary

Random fact: When you join the game, you will find yourself with only zero seats. That's because your party's representatives haven't been elected yet. You need to establish your party's position on issues by proposing several bills that your party wants passed and sending them to vote. This raises your visibility and if you do it enough, you will win seats at the next election.
