Description[?]:
Mr. Speaker On the president's behalf, we propose the first stages of change in the way we, as a nation, treat our states. It is of the belief of the president and several of us in the shadow cabinet team that government at a local level is too weak. What we are proposing here will give local governments control over their own public works. We believe that the states will be the best body able to determine public works for the communities they serve. We also want to give them a national eminent domain policy which does not constrict planners in the construction of public works. Assemblyman Oscar Flowers Shadow Prime Minister for the SLP |

Message | We will only support Article 1, providing that the private property that is seized are the houses of corrupt corporation CEOs. Public works is a broad category of infrastructure projects such as public buildings (schools, hospitals), transport infrastructure (roads, railroads, bridges, pipelines), public spaces (parks, beaches) and most importantly public services (water supply, sewage, electrical grid). We do not trust the devolution of power to regions to build things that have been built by the government for a considerable amount of time and the BRRP believes that by giving local governments control over public works, there might be roads with bad quality, electrical grids won't work, water supply will be contaminated. That is because there is a possibility of construction work being transferred to private companies with corrupt oligarchs as the CEO, who only care about money and not the people. Therefore, we oppose Article 2 and ask the Shadow Head of Government for the SLP and the Shadow Minister for Infrastructure and Transport to have the Honourable Karl Cooper reconsider his decision. Random fact: Cabinet ministers who disagree seriously with the head of government would usually be expected to resign. Parties within the cabinet may attempt to manoeuvre to replace the head of government though, for example by proposing a new cabinet bill or voting for an early election. |
