Bill: Increasing Assembly Session Duration Act of 4132
Details
Submitted by[?]: Nouveau Centre
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: April 4133
Description[?]:
Monsieur le Président, Our current session duration is a mere 24 months, too short a time for the government to be able to effectively carry out its agenda. We were graced with a quick creation of a cabinet earlier this year, but it may take longer in other years. Since it takes roughly 8 months to pass a bill through the National Assembly, there is a very narrow window to propose and debate legislation. I wish to increase the length of a session by a modest 12 months so there are 36 months to a session, three years, which will give us ample time to propose, debate, amend, and vote on a wide variety of legislation without constant electoral and campaign interruptions. I yield. Aurelien Chatal Prime Minister Deputy for Tiralouse (Nouveau Centre) |

Message | For the PN, we are sticking with the 2 yr term as people loves the government to be active in crafting and rejecting laws and implementing faster and efficient services by the Executive Department i.e. the Cabinet. As a result, we always have a very high election turnout compared to countries who have not implemented the 2 year term. |

Message | Monsieur le President, Might I inform the gentleman from the PN that election turnout is dependent not on the length of a session but on the variety in political parties vying for votes? Nonetheless, we Centrists believe this is an issue we will continue to push for, as elections have become much too commonplace and are acting more as a hindrance to governance than as a facilitator. Message | We would actually support another year on top of this, as it allows all parties to craft, debate and vote on bills without the interruption of elections so frequently, often resetting bill votes too... as such, we move to support this motion. Laurent Deschanel Deputy Leader of Rildanor Premier Member of the NA (OOC: also it means you have like 3 days to actually propose any bills which is annoying and tiring.) |

Message | 2 year sessions = 4 real life days, 3 year sessions = 6 real life days, 4 year sessions = 8 real life days |
