Bill: Modernisation of Luthori Section 1 4143

Details

Submitted by[?]: Luthori People's Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 4143

Description[?]:

Mr. Speaker,

It is time to modernise Luthori and avoid heading to the dark ages. Many parties of Luthori say the represent the people, but pass bills that make the lives of the people of Luthori worse. Modernising our nation will also help our nation be accepted by the international community, a goal we wish to achieve. This bill is just one section of the multiple bills that will come in the future when this bill pases.

George Thompson,

Leader of LPP

MessageMr. Speaker,

The honorable Mr. Thompson says his aim is to "modernize our nation." He says this, he then proposes, for lack of better terminology, that what we actually do, and what I suspect he means when he says "modernize" is abandon decency. Abandon morality. Abandon any standards of acceptable social norms.

The termination of precious and innocent life isn't "modern." Its barbarism! Having tax payers fund such a heinous practice isn't "modern." It's called genocide! Euthanasia isn't "modern" it's criminal! I cannot and I will not support such legislation. It's unthinkable and unconscionable!

I yield.

MessageMr. Speaker,

As both a woman and a proud Luthorian, I often have to balance women's reproductive rights with our nation's proud social customs. I personally do not favor abortions, but they should be legal and used only as a method of last resort for families who simply do not have the financial means of caring for the child, or for another equally-pressing reason. With that being said, I am opposed to the government funding abortions. As for homosexuality in the military, that is a step too far. I am willing to support a "don't ask, don't tell" policy, which is a reasonable compromise for the right and left. Though the HDU is traditionally against euthanasia, we believe on the whole, the good slightly outweighs the bad, and we will swallow our pride and vote in favor of this bill. We would be just as willing to vote for a bill that reintroduced the "don't ask, don't tell" policy and withdrew government funding of abortion if another party so chooses to present such a bill.

I yield.

The Rt Hon. Margaret Patterson MD
Leader of the HDU
Minister of Education and Culture

Random fact: Periodically, it is a good idea to go through your nation's Treaties and arrange to withdraw from any that are unwanted.

Random quote: "If you have an apple, and I have an apple, and we exchange the apples, then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea, and I have an idea, and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas." - George Bernard Shaw
