Description[?]:
Mr. Speaker The Alliance believes that a mixed economy, established under a decade ago and recently repealed, is the best way to handle our economic situation. We see, time and time again, these command economies constantly collapse. I have to ask the assembly, why do we not use the best of both worlds? We don't need a purely private or public economy, this isn't a black and white issue. We can use the state run industries to insure a national standard and promote competition with other state run and private industries. We can allow the private sector to be active in our industry to insure the competition and innovation that the private sector brings. A state run monopoly only does what a private monopoly does, whatever it wants. Like any monopoly, a state run monopoly is overall a bad thing for the general consumer and for the employees it hires. While I am sure the men and women running the industry have the best intent, the people in charge won't always be like that. Allowing competition keeps our worker's rights and benefits up, prices down, and the overall quality of goods up. Edward Harper Shadow Finance Minister, Alliance |
