Bill: Child Labor Reform Act of 4144
Details
Submitted by[?]: United Luthori
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: March 4145
Description[?]:
Mr. Speaker, Let us devolve child labor policy to local governments so that each duchy regulates child labor according to their respective economic interests and in accordance with the popular sentiment in their respective duchies. Allow me to note here, before misguided outrage consumes some members of the left, that while certain industries such as steel manufacturing continue to play a role in Luthori's economy, as a strong economic power, most of our economy is driven by services, and to prohibit or crack down on child labor, in any way, would damage Luthori's productivity in industries that provide a safe working environment and useful work experience for our youth, which is a perfectly fine alternative to an education at one of Luthori's leading universities. I yield. The Rt Hon. Margaret Patterson MD Leader of the HDU Minister of Education and Culture |

Message | Mr. Speaker, Firstly, may I make it clear, the HDU do not strongly value devolution. They repealed the devolution of recreational drug issues and repealed duchy-level issues in favor of rolling back the clock. I call to the HDU to embrace the current position that the Government holds: strong regulation of child labour, ensuring that only older teens hold jobs and their hours aren't specifically long. Without this, and devolving fully to local governments, you'd have the more radical capitalists in the National Conservative Party and National party completely ridding all regulation on child labour because of their radical and fundamentalist views on the free market and it's functions. Even if our economy is services driven, children shouldn't have hours longer then say, 4 or 6. But, alas, I know that the HDU will continue on this this gem of legislation and likely get it passed. Handing over children's lives in some duchies to ruthless work and strong expectation of Luthorians getting jobs more quickly. I yield, Ethan White Luthorian Peoples Union Deputy |
