Bill: Interracial Marriage Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Unity Labour Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 4145

Description[?]:

Fellow members,

It is heartbreaking that we as a nation and state is still lagging behind in terms of civil liberties with a myopic view on interracial couples and backward law that does not out rightly recognize marriage between mixed interracial couples, to which we treat them indifferent in society. All humans are born equal and so we should not treat anyone different, no matter their pigmentation, race or even ethic background. Furthermore the mere fact that the law allows sexual relations between interracial couples gives further reasoning and support as to why such a bill must be enacted. Therefore I move this bill to urge the state to fully acknowledge and recognize interracial marriage and treat it similarly with the rights afforded to marriages under the law.

I'm Obliged

Rt Hon Roosevelt Ferdinand
Political Leader of the ULP
