Bill: Restriction of Land Mines Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Alorian National Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 4151
Description[?]:
Whilst we believe in having a strong military, we find the use of Land Mines unethical. We have seen the devastation that Land Mines have on our soldiers abroad and feel that less mines in the world will make it a better place. Therefore, we propose the Restriction of Land Mines Act. This act will NOT stop us from making or using mines but it will restrict the military from using them freely. This brings about more accountability when tragic accidents happen involving our mines and will mean there are tougher regulations in place when it comes to using them, making accidents less likely. |

Message | Mr Speaker We completely understand the point the Alorian National Party is making. Land mines can be very dangerous so we need to be sure there is consideration before using them, but we think this decision is best left to the army. The army is more qualified than the government to decide when and when not to use land mines so, after discussions with the AIP Defence Spokesman, we have decided we will vote against this bill. Message | We agree the military is more than qualified to decide when and when not to use Land Mines and this bill does not prevent them from being a part of the decision making process. Allowing the Government to draw up regulations is a way to fully ensure that the use of Land Mines is only used when really appropriate and with set guidelines followed when they are used to prevent accidents. This also helps combat the global issue of left over mines that aren't disarmed once a conflict is over, meaning they are a danger to people and wildlife for generations. This does not cut the military out of the picture, this heavily involves them. I doubt you'd say that the government shouldn't have a say about Chemical and Nuclear weapons being used in warfare, so why shouldn't the government have regulations in place for the military's use of Land Mines? They cause more deaths in this day and age! Emris Hayes, ANP Member for Defence |

Random fact: It is the collective responsibility of the players in a nation to ensure all currently binding RP laws are clearly outlined in an OOC reference bill in the "Bills under debate" section of the nation page. Confusion should not be created by displaying only some of the current RP laws or displaying RP laws which are no longer current. |
